Life Settlement: Towards A Free Market for Life Insurance

The Life Settlement market is all about providing due access to needed cash from existing life insurance.

This so-called free market referred to as the life insurance industry???s secondary market is based on a central premise, namely that the value of life insurance is best determined by independent market forces and has been validated in recent years by its rapid growth. It is also amazing to see the value creation and opportunities that this market presents. What it a life settlement and why may it be an attractive financial alternative to policy holders?

Various market providers in this sector of the industry are focused on servicing viatical settlements, life settlements, and senior settlements. Maximizing the profitable offering price for your life insurance policy in what is commonly referred to the secondary market for life insurance. Quite innovative, albeit counter-intuitive, advocating looking at things from a totally different perspective and finding new value in life insurance

Life insurance provides financial solutions to meet various needs of businesses and families. Over time, however it also needs to be dynamic and change with the holders and the/their demands. For example as loans are repaid , key executives retire, estates become smaller, businesses are sold, estate taxes are reduced ??? or better yet, no longer exist of in cases where the policy simply becomes too expensive it is definitely time to revisit said policy.

Until just several years ago, individuals in the situations laid out about above were facing a monopoly, a market situation in which a seller can only sell to one buyer. Imagine if a homeowner, after living in the home for many years, was told that instead of being permitted to sell the home to any willing buyer, he or she could only sell it back to the original builder at the price determined by the builder. Clearly, no one would tolerate such a situation for homeowners, but it has existed for life insurance policy owners. For many years, policy owners have had only one buyer for their policies ??? the life insurers. The advent of a secondary market has lessened the monopoly power of life insurers and created a free market for policy owners to create value from and using their insurance.

Before the advent of the secondary market, life insurance policies could not readily be sold, and it would have made little sense to speak of a policy???s fair market value. By its very existence, this new and growing secondary market for life insurance bestows on every policy a fair market value like the owner???s other financial assets. A life settlement can now be treated like any other financial vehicle.

Top 5 Jobs Which Require Life Insurance

Life insurance is an important aspect of everyone's lives and is something which everyone will have to face at some point in time throughout their lives. This point may come sooner rather than later for some individuals because of the job they perform on a daily basis.

While some individuals start everyday by putting on their suits and racing to get to the coffee shop for their morning coffee, others are strapping on their work boots and preparing themselves for a day of excruciatingly hard labor. As scary as it may sound, there are many individuals who are willing to put their lives in danger every single day when they get up and go to work.

The following is a list of the top 5 jobs which are considered to be the most dangerous jobs in the world. Individuals who perform these jobs are highly recommended to have a life insurance plan incase (god forbid) anything goes wrong on any given day. These are the 5 occupations which made the list:

1. Police/Detectives Police Officers face life threatening situations almost everyday. They are highly trained to defend themselves and are equipped with protective equipment at all times. Life insurance and disability insurance are crucial for individuals working in the field of policing.

2. Airplane Pilots Believe it or not, airplane pilots require life insurance because they are dealing with such powerful machines which have been known to have mechanical glitches. Airplane pilots are also highly trained in their field to make sure they do their best to fly safely.

3. Construction Workers Construction workers are somewhat unappreciated for the amount of hard work they do everyday. They not only put their lives in danger from all the machinery they are expected to operate, but they also face many factors which will affect their health in the long run. Overexposure to sun, heat and excessive lifting are just a few of these factors.

4. Farm Workers Much like construction workers, farm workers are at high risk of injury or death due to the fact that they are constantly operating heavy machinery. There are hundreds of farm work related deaths a years and thousands of injuries for individuals working in farm fields. Life insurance and disability insurance are important for individuals in this occupation.

5. Fire Fighters It is a known fact that fire fighters put their lives on the line everyday to save the lives of others. Knowing the potential consequences and performing the job anyways indicates that these workers deserve the highest level of respect from others. Individuals who have chosen careers in firefighting are also likely to have a life insurance policy.

Is your job dangerous? Is your life on the line everyday? Maybe not, but there are many other factors other than your occupation which may indicate you need life insurance. Life insurance is a plan which will ensure your loved ones are taken care of incase anything happens to you. Wouldn't you like to know your family would be looked after should this type of situation occur?

Realtors Sue Blue Shield

Health coverage is going to be difficult for California Realtors from now on. California based Blue Shield, which used to offer health coverage for about 8,000 realtors and their families, has now decided to terminate its coverage abruptly. All the customers were informed through mails that their coverage would be active only till May 31, 2007. Reacting to the situation, California Association of Realtors has taken up the responsibility of defending its members and has sued Blue Shield.

Blue Shield has cancelled all agreements with its customers. Speaking on this, Colleen Badagliacco, President of California Association of Realtors, said that this was really a tough situation. The families are trying in vain to find a replacement for Blue Shield. She further added that Blue Shield had behaved in the most careless and irresponsible manner by not showing even a hint of sympathy about the health of more than 8000 families. The company is not ready to hold any discussions pertaining to this matter.

David Seldin, spokesperson of Blue Shield, said that the association had violated the agreement. According to the agreement, 75 percent of the association members should be enrolled in the Blue Shield Plan for their health insurance under the group coverage. Blue Shield had intimated the association regarding its decision in December itself and had also given the customers ample time to get a replacement.

But the association does not agree to the charges. According to their lawyer, the enrolled members in the guaranteed issue plan are more than 75 percent. The attorney said that almost 99 percent of the members have joined the plan. Blue Shield, which offers coverage to more than 3 million natives of California, states that under a group plan, 75 percent enrollment is prerequisite in order to preserve the interests of the company and also the individual.

Blue Cross Insurance - Providing Health Insurance For One Third Of All Americans

Blue Cross insurance was the creation of Justin Ford Kimball who, in 1929, devised a plan to provide hospital care for school teachers in Dallas. The plan provided teachers with cover for up to twenty one days in hospitalization each year for a premium of six dollars.

From these humble beginnings the plan spread, first throughout Dallas and other areas of Texas and then nationwide, providing cover for employees across an ever widening range of employment.

Just ten years after it was born the Blue Cross symbol was adopted by the American Hospital Association for plans that met certain standards and this formal recognition provided Blue Cross insurance with a springboard for further growth.

In 1960 the growth in popularity of Blue Cross was such that the Blue Cross Association superseded the American Hospital Association commission and some twelve years later severed all ties with the commission.

Finally, in 1982, the Blue Cross Association merged with the National Association of Blue Shield Plans and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association we know today was formed.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is in effect a trade association for some thirty eight independent and locally, or regionally, operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans. These together provide cover throughout the United States, as well as in the Canadian province, for millions of Americans (it is estimated that one in three Americans now carry a Blue Cross and Blue Shield card) and makes Blue Cross and Blue Shield the country's largest healthcare provider.

But Blue Cross and Blue Shield does much more than simply provide medical insurance cover on a group and individual basis.

The Association is now also the administrator for Social Security in a large number of states and often provides group cover for state government employees and for employees of the Federal government. As a result, officials within Blue Cross and Blue Shield work closely with government health policy makers at the very top levels of government and the Association plays a significant part in influencing the direction of government health policy.

It is amazing to think that a plan originally devised simply to provide cover for hospital bills for a small group of school teachers in Dallas has now developed not only into a nationwide plan providing cover for just about anything you can imagine from critical illness through long-term care, disability, life cover, dental cover, pharmacy cover and even cover for worldwide travel, but has also spawned an organization that is at the very heart of the healthcare system of the United States.

With such phenomenal growth in the past seventy five years and such a strong position today one can only imagine that Blue Cross and Blue Shield will continue to grow in the years ahead proving yet more and more cover for an ever growing number of customers.

Blue Cross Insurance Comes Up With PHRs Model

Good quality health care is simply a means of having the right information in the right hands and at the right time. You might be an individual or a family person, every body require synchronized sort of health care information, which might be distinct among a number of physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and even among few other health care providers. But in fact we are many years away from this system that are in fact fully interoperable.

Consumers would now have better-quality access to the health care information they may require sometime to optimize their health needs and thanks to a new personal health record (PHR) model being monitored by Blue cross health insurance plans.

America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is now working in combine way to know the core health care information that comprises in PHRs, and have developed and pilot tested standards that as well allow consumers to move PHR data when they require to change their coverage. This makes sure that PHRs would certainly be moveable from one health insurer to another health insurer, as customers may request. Members of the two teams cover approximately 200 million people.

The diligence model PHR by Blue cross insurance is actually a private one, secure web-based tool that is preserved by an insurer that further comprise of a consumer's claims and governmental information. PHRs permit individual patients and their selected caregivers to appear and manage health care information and play a superior role in their own health care.

Consequently of health insurance also claims filed on behalf of policy holder, insurers have main information necessary to offer PHRs, and are in an elite position to build them for customers in the close to term. PHRs are dissimilar from the electronic health records that offers usually use to store and run full detailed clinical information. An estimation of 75 million people has PHRs all through health insurers, with millions more planning for the service during 2007.

Physicians tend to hearten insurers to aggress on a consistent set of core PHR data. Health insurers would take on innovating in the PHRs they get bigger, but the aim is to slot in core data elements into any PHR. These elements consist of patient histories, medications, immunizations, allergies, risks, plans of care, and as well few other information, which physicians know as the key data. The health insurance groups of people have set certain aim of incorporating the core data elements and put into practice the standards for portability from a previous insurer to a new insurer by 2008.

Blue Cross Health Insurance-Coverage Considerations

There are several different types of health care insurance plans available. Some of which include HMO (Health Maintenance Organizations), and PPO (Preferred Provider Organizations). Blue Cross Health Insurance, and Blue Shield are the traditional type health insurance offered by mutual and stock companies.

Commercial insurance companies generally provide broad healthcare coverage, and are not really cost effective, or extremely efficient when delivering health care to patients.

However, Blue Cross Health Insurance differs in several ways when compared to other types of commercial insurance companies. One major difference is that many of their benefits are provided not on the basis of reimbursement, but rather on the basis of service. What does this mean? Rather then you paying the service provider and then being reimbursed by the company, Blue Cross Health Insurance pays the service provider directly for your treatment and services.

Blue Cross also establishes and maintains contractual relationships with doctors and hospitals. What this means is that in order for doctors and hospitals to participate with the Blue Cross Health Insurance plan, they must enter into a contract with the company. This contract defines the costs for the specific services provided to patients.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield are familiar names to most people. However, most do not understand that they are two very different types of health insurance. For all covered hospital services, Blue Cross Health Insurance is the plan to choose. For all covered physician services, it is Blue Shield. Blue Cross contracts with hospitals, Blue Shield contracts with physicians.

Blue Cross Health Insurance and Blue Shield are pre-paid health insurance plans. How this works is that you are required to pay a monthly premium to the insurance company in order to be covered for your medical services.

As a subscriber of Blue Cross Health Insurance, the hospital will be paid for each medical service claim provided. Generally, covered services would include pre-admission tests, chemotherapy, dialysis, physical therapy, diagnostic tests, emergencies, injuries, and minor surgeries. Specialized coverage for subscribers may be provided for families with dependent handicapped children. Additional coverage to include maternity benefits will also be available to subscribers.

Blue Cross may also offer supplemental coverage for catastrophic loss under the plan. Blue Shield, will handle coverage with your physicians. A Blue Shield participating physician will be paid directly as contracted and agreed upon. The amount paid, is pre-determined and is generally set on a basis of UCR (Usual, Customary, and Reasonable) rates as well as comparable rates being paid to physicians in the same area. Together, Blue Cross Health Insurance and Blue Shield are a consolidated company, and should be considered when looking for quality health insurance coverage.

Traditionally, Blue Cross health insurance provided coverage for only hospital related expenses. Medical coverages (doctors, etc.) were offered by Blue Shield. With just a few exceptions, that division of offerings no longer exists. Blue Cross health insurance is obtainable from brokers of either Blue Cross, or Blue Shield.

There has been some consolidation of Blue Cross health insurance companies allowing them to provide health insurance coverage to very large groups, while at the same time being able to offer lower premium rates. One such consolidation is called WellPoint. It offers both Blue Cross, and Blue Shield health insurance in more than a dozen states. Other examples would be the mid-Atlantic region's CareFirst, and located in the U.S. Pacific northwest, The Regence Group.

Financially speaking, just how popular is Blue Cross health insurance? It is estimated that in 2003, the Blue Cross health insurance family of companies earned more than $182 billion in revenues.

PHRs Model by Blue Cross Insurance

High quality health care today simply means having the right information in the right hands and at the right time. You may be an individual or a family, every body need concurrent access to health care information that might be discrete among a number of physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and other health care providers. But in fact we are many years away from the system that are fully interoperable. Consumers would have superior access to the health care information they require to optimize their health and health care thanks to a new personal health record (PHR) model being urbanized by Blue cross health insurance plans.

America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) worked jointly to recognize the core health care information to comprise in PHRs, and have urbanized and pilot tested standards, which allow consumers to move PHR data when they actually change their coverage. This ensures that PHRs would surely be portable from health insurer to health insurer as customers have requested. Members of the two teams cover about 200 million people.

The industry model PHR by Blue cross insurance is in fact private, secure web-based tool preserved by an insurer, which contains a consumer's claims and organizational information. PHRs allow individual patients and their chosen caregivers to look and manage health care information and play a better role in their own health care.

Consequently of health insurance claims filed on behalf of consumers, insurers have most information required to give PHRs, and are in an exclusive position to build them for customers in the near term. PHRs are different from the electronic health records, which providers normally use to store and run detailed clinical information. A projected 75 million people have PHRs throughout health insurers, with millions more planned for the service during 2007.

Physicians tend to encourage insurers to accept a reliable set of core PHR data. Health insurers would carry on innovating in the PHRs they expand, but the aim is to slot in core data elements into every PHR. These elements comprise patient histories, medications, immunizations, allergies, risks, plans of care, and much other information, which physicians recognized as the key data. The health insurance groups of people have set an objective of incorporating the core data elements and implement the standards for portability from a previous insurer to a new insurer by 2008.

How The Blue Cross Works

The Blue Cross is, in actuality, not a single company, but is instead a large conglomeration of companies that make up the Blue Cross Group of companies. These businesses that make up the Blue Cross include the leading companies with the highest financial stability in providing several medical services, such as travel insurance, personal accident insurance, and medical insurance, as well as Third Party Administered Plans for healthcare services, and many more similar products.

The grouping of companies under the Blue Cross has a solid experience of over fifty years. They pride themselves on their ability to maintain a steady level of excellence, while still giving all of their many clients comprehensive and practical services.

The commitment of Blue Cross, according to their own website, is to continually improve their own customer service, to ensure that the services that they provide their customers are always getting better. With the track record worthy of boasting, and a competent support staff, they feel confident that they are always equipped to provide customers will immediate service at high levels at any given time.

This level of service is especially important in the health industry. Certainly, we all expect good customer service from any company with which we do business, but with the utter basic importance of proper health services, companies like the Blue Cross allow us a bit more security and peace of mind in a world that seems to have lost a lot of its own stability and comfort. It is exactly that kind of assurance that the Blue Cross aims to give its clients.

Furthermore, the Blue Cross excels in its ability to provide a multitude of services at a high level, instead of just one. This convenience is important, especially when it comes to your health. When you are in need of health services, there is nothing more trying than having to deal with several different companies, all with their different requirements, forms, and levels of service. Blue Cross gives you everything in once place, with a standard level of high service, and the assurance that they’re easy to reach and will always be there when you need them.

Blue Cross has become the envy of the health industry, with its proud history, stable present, and bright future. It is an example of what proper health care services should look like in today’s level of quality and technology. It is refreshing to know that a company such as Blue Cross is out there to take care of millions throughout North America.
